15 October 2004 - Note that there is an error with the Fire Engines "Meat Whiplash" real audio file. I have removed it and will replace soon. 01/01/2004 - Added the Meat Whiplash Single in Real Audio format to the Audio page. 31/12/2003 - Added the scans of The Fire Engines Candyskin single, the b-side of which was called "Meat Whiplash", added a Real Audio file of the same track to the Audio page and also added a scan of the Rumblefish Video. What has all this got to do with the Motorcycle Boy? See History below. |

I have created this page as there is a lack of information on the Motorcycle Boy (and not the US rockers with the same name) on the web. Any information on this band or vocalist Alex Taylor is welcome as are any cuttings/scans etc. I can be contacted via the link above. Thanks to Richard Coulthard for the info on the Nymphaea Pink Sensation releases and accompanying scans. |

The origins of the Motorcycle Boy go back to Scotland 1985 when a band named after a Fire Engines b-side were formed - Meat Whiplash. They signed to Creation Records releasing one single for that label (which was produced by The Jesus & Mary Chain). In 1987 the band recruited vocalist Alex Taylor from The Shop Assistants and changed their name to The Motorcycle Boy (from a character in the movie Rumblefish).
They signed to Rough Trade releasing one single for that label before signing to Chrysalis releasing two singles and one album for that label. From Chrysalis they moved onto Nymphaea Pink releasing another couple of singles before calling it a day in 1990. The definitive line up was Alex Taylor, Paul McDermott, Michael Kerr, Eddy Connolly and David Scott. More information of other releases Alex Taylor appeared on can be found here. |
