Piney Gir Country Roadshow

What do we think about Piney Gir? We caught her at Bitterscene earlier this year and wrote that

"Some songs are a little kitschy (‘Trouble’),others show their fondness for torch and twang country heartbreakers like the slow and anguished Patsy Cline-ish ‘Little Doggy’ (their “most grown up song”) or ‘I Don’t Know Why I Feel Like Cryin’ (But I Do)’ with its moaning pedal steel. ‘The Great Divide’ rewrites relationships in terms of American geography while ‘the Big Apple Song’ is Pogues-like cowpunk. There are also country versions of a number of songs from Piney’s non-country ‘Peakahokahoo’ album, including a rocking ‘Boston’. They seem to capture the spirit of country perfectly and the music, if it wasn’t for the several stories that sit on top of the excellent basement venue, would have lifted the roof off."

Daddy Long Legs

Daddy Long Legs are a London three-piece who make wonky and joyfully noisy pop music which has been described as 'an engagingly clever mix of mathrock, quirky blues and post-punk'. if that sounds confusing, don't worry, they don't know what it means either.

You should know that Daddy Long Legs pretty much punches genres hard in the face. despite the confusion over what to call the noises they make, over the last two years Daddy Long Legs have gained a reputation for face-melting live shows. a typical show is a half-hour, sweat-drenched, six-legged race through as many as a dozen skronk-pop gems featuring enthusiastic three part harmonies, dancing like a broken helicopter and lung-popping homage to Wesley Willis. Whether they're crying about kettles or smiling about frisbee, it's not hard to tell that they really do mean it.

Santa Dog

Santa Dog play sparkly, heartfelt guitar pop with a sinister perimeter.

Think Blondie going two rounds with the Throwing Muses on the edge of a cliff with a bracing English breeze whipping up skirts and causing mischief and you're still nowhere near capturing the band's distinctive sound and uniquely British charm.

2005's Chemical EP saw the band gain exposure and airplay on BBC One Music, NPR, Radio 1 and regional BBC stations. The EP also appeared in the top 10s of 2005 of several leading indie music websites.

The band have been steadily gathering a global grassroots following through fanzines, blogs and live shows - resulting in the first pressing of their latest EP Belle de Jour selling out on pre-orders.

The debut album is set for release in Japan with Quince Records in Spring 2007, and will be available in the UK on import.

The Bridge Gang

We were NOT influenced by Orange Juice, XTC or Wire. Morrissey did NOT change our lives. We did NOT form at artschool. We are BORED of indie disco. We LOVE making POP NOISE.

The Bridge Gang  originally hailed from Manchester & Plymouth but based themselves in Hackney, East London. The band's live show was something else and they were our favourite live band. They released two singles on Brille Records before deciding to call it a day when their third single was announced and boy did they save their best until last. Band members can now be found in the Olympians.

The Schla La Las

They're good and bluesy, and not afraid to write entire songs about trying to get laid. Quite possible the best band imaginable at a 21st birthday party.

The Torture Garden.com May 2006

Of course I'm going to fucking love this! London band matches thepop swagger of early Headcoatees to the fuzzed-out surf sounds of all those excellent 'Girls from The Garage' Sixties compilations, throws in several barely in-key shouted harmonies and... man, this sounds like The Fizzbombs! Whoa. Respect.
